Claiming Allowances Due is Not Illegal - Claiming Undue Allowances is Illegal

Just when "padding" your tax or company expenses becomes illegal has become a topic of interest to most British MPs, after the Speaker of the House of Commons, Michael Martin, Labour MP for Glasgow North East has been accused of claiming unnecessary allowances due to him and his family. This latest revelation follows closely on the heels of the Commons voting to suspend the Tory MP Derek Conway for 10 days for misusing his parliamentary allowance.

Other MPs are also under investigation. One influential blog at the BBC web site claims that over ONE HUNDRED other MPs may also have "misused" significant amounts of their allowances.

Misused, mislaid or just plain misappropriation of public funds?

If they did the crime, they must do the time.

As always, comments welcome
